About Me

My Story

I got my start in the Gaming Industry in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Six years after I started there, I realized that it was a little bit more than a summer job. While Tahoe was a great town to live in, I decided that if I was going to make this a career, I should move to the Mecca of gambling, Las Vegas.

After a dozen years or so, I had worked on The Strip and off, in the local market. Both are crazy but for very different reasons. Somewhere in there, getting a degree seemed like a good idea so I gave up a lot of my fun time and came out the other end with a Bachelor of Arts in History.

After bouncing around, I landed in northern Nevada, where I currently live.

I’ve spent my entire time in the casino business in Slots. At my first job in Lake Tahoe, my veteran coworkers complained about the recently ended practice of employees being allowed to smoke while they worked, and we “tracked” our customers manually. No Player’s Club cards or electronic tracking systems back then.

Since that time, I’ve watched the Gaming Industry bound into the twenty-first century. It has grown from one-armed bandits and the old electro-mechanicals to video game caliber graphics and virtual blackjack dealers.

Now, instead of completely hanging up my spurs, I’ve decided to write about the ever-changing world of gambling.

Volunteer Work

I’ve always gotten a tremendous amount of fulfillment out of volunteering. I believe that those who can, should. I also believe that life is about more than work, sleep, have fun.

While I was in Las Vegas I was a Big Brother with Big Brothers, Big Sisters and I participated in a reading program put on by a grade school near me.

Nowadays I volunteer at a local animal shelter and I help a nearby Christian academy as their librarian.

On the Lighter Side

Ever since I lived in Lake Tahoe, I’ve enjoyed outdoor activities. Back then it was hiking the many trails and peaks in Desolation Wilderness. Now it is kayaking and biking with friends.

I also dabble in the occasional video game and, like most writers, I read extensively.
